Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters! On June 8th, 2016, the original Ghostbusters will be re-released in theaters for a limited time. This is in anticipation of the latest Ghostbusters film, the female reboot starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, to be released in theaters on July 15th, 2016. Excitement has been building for years, speculating the making of another Ghostbusters, and it's almost here.
The original Ghostbusters was released June 8th, 1984. It was written by two of the film's stars; Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. It was originally supposed to star Eddie Murphy, John Belushi, and Dan Aykroyd as the Ghostbusters but due to the unexpected and tragic death of Belushi, Eddie backed out. So, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis took over the vacant roles and completed the movie to become one of the most loved blockbusters of all-time. Can you imagine the Ghostbusters with any other cast? 11. Jennifer Runyon as Female Psych Student
Only die-hard Ghostbusters fans may recognize this face. Jennifer Runyon played the female student that Dr. Venkman is giving the shock test too at the beginning of the movie. "Is it a star?" she asks. "It IS a star!" Dr. Venkman replies. Dr. Venkman refrains from giving her shocks and instead gives the male student shocks. He then proceeds to ask her out on an unofficial 'date' at....eight o'clock.
Jennifer appeared in the television series Charles in Charge and also Another World. She also replaced the youngest Brady, Cindy Brady, in 1988's A Very Brady Christmas. Jennifer has retired from acting and enjoys life in California with her producer/women's basketball coach husband, Todd Corman.
10.William Atherton as Walter Peck
William Atherton portrayed Walter Peck, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Walter wanted access to the Ghostbusters' storage facility to check for potential hazardous waste and we all know what happened when he did secure a cease and desist. Ghosts escaped into the city creating havoc everywhere!
William Atherton appeared in various television shows and films following attention received by his appearance in Ghostbusters. He went on to have a role in the film The Girl Next Door and was cast in the television series Defiance during its second season.
9. Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett
Sigourney Weaver has appeared in numerous films including: Heartbreakers, Alien, Avatar, Gorillas in the Mist, and Galaxy Quest. She has been nominated for three Academy Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards, and has won two Golden Globe Awards. She has been married to director Jim Simpson since 1984 and they have one daughter, Charlotte.
Sigourney had the role of Dana Barrett, also known as the Gatekeeper. She had the strange monster in her fridge and the experience of having eggs burst out of their cartoon and start cooking themselves on the counter.
8. Slavitza Jovan as Gozer
Slavitza Jovan is a Serbian model and actress who is well-known for her role as Gozer in Ghostbusters. Gozer is the one that hears the thoughts of Dr. Raymond Stantz and brings the Stay-Puft marshmallow man to life.
Slavitza has been a few films and television shows including 1999's House on Haunted Hill alongside Geoffrey Rush and Famke Janssen.
7. Alice Drummond as Librarian
Alice Drummond played the librarian, one of the first characters we were introduced to in Ghostbusters. She is putting away books in the New York City Public Library's basement and the card catalog starts spitting out cards all over the place. The librarian runs away and runs straight into a ghost. When the Ghostbusters are called and question her on any history of mental problems in her family, she reveals she had an uncle that thought he was Saint Jerome.
Alice Drummond has maintained a very busy film schedule since finishing up Ghostbusters. She has been in numerous films including 1997's Til There Was You and 2008's Doubt. She is 87 years young and hasn't started slowing down yet!
6. Kymberly Herrin as Dream Ghost
Kymberly Herrin was 1981's Playboy Playmate of the Month for May. She was cast as the Dream Girl ghost and appeared in other 'dream girl' type roles after Ghostbusters. She was in St. Elsewhere, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Road House. Kymberly was a model for Ralph Lauren as well as appearing in other editions of Playboy magazine. She is retired from acting and as of 2010 was designing her own jewelry out of her home in California.
5. Dan Aykroyd as Dr. Raymond Stantz
Dan Aykroyd took on the role of Dr. Raymond Stantz after his best friend and partner in The Blues Brothers tragically died and the role was left vacant.
In 1990, Dan was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Driving Miss Daisy. 1992, Dan Aykroyd founded music venue House of Blues and in 2007 he also founded Crystal Vodka. He appears occasionally on Saturday Night Live, the show where his career was born. He has three children and has been married to Donna Dixon since 1983.
4. Harold Ramis Dr. Egon Spengler
Harold Ramis passed away in 2014 from complications from vasculitis. He was 69 years old and left behind his wife, Erica Mann, and three children.
He had an incredible career in the entertainment industry as a writer, director, producer, and actor in some of the most successful films of all-time. His directorial-debut was the comedic blockbuster Caddyshack. He also appeared in As Good As it Gets as well as Knocked Up. Harold will be most remembered for his role as Dr. Egon Spengler. The nerdy parapsychologist who collected "spores, molds, and fungus". Whatever you do, don't cross the streams!
3. Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore
Winston Zeddemore was the last of the Ghostbusters to be hired as part of the ghost hunting team. Ernie Hudson starred in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, as well as the "Ghostbusters" cartoons and video games. Hudson's career has included being a cast member on the hit HBO television series Oz. He also appeared on other popular TV shows like Bones, Desperate Housewives and Modern Family.
2. Rick Moranis as Louis Tully
Rick Moranis played the lovable, chatty Louis Tully. Louis was in love with his neighbor, Dana. He was chased by the 'dog' and turned into Vinz Clortho, the Keymaster. Vinz was anxiously awaiting for the coming of the demon Gozer.
Rick Moranis was in a slew of films in the early 90s including Ghostbusters and Ghostbuster II, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and one of his last film roles The Flintstones. Rick lost his wife in 1991 to breast cancer and became more invested in being a good father to his 2 young children. By 1997, he semi-retired from acting to spend more time with his kids. He has been in a handful of voice over roles and has released some comedy albums, one of which was nominated for a Grammy Award.
1. Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman
Before Ghostbusters there was Tootsie and Caddyshack. After Ghostbusters there was Scrooged, Groundhog Day, and St. Vincent. Bill Murray is an extremely versatile and prolific actor. He has had high points and low points in his acting career, but overall more high points. He has been nominated for an Academy Award as well as numerous Golden Globe Awards. His performance in 2003's Lost in Translation was his most successful role to date and according to him, his most favorite role. Bill has been married twice and has six children.
